Status Quo’s Francis Rossi has waded into the rift between the Gallagher brothers.

“I just wish they’d tried to last a bit longer,” the singer said of Oasis in an interview with theDaily Express.

“Are Liam and Noel really brothers?” he added. “I can understand a sibling rivalry when they’re in their mid-twenties but they should be over all that. And if not then what sad cases they are.”

Earlier this month, Noel again quashed any hopes of an Oasis reunion. When asked if he would be up for the band getting back together following the success of The Stone Roses’ and Blur’s reformations, he replied: “I know it’s a thing these days. And I know from experience now that the one way of stopping people from just asking about fucking reunions is to actually do it. And then people stop asking. But I’m afraid I won’t be getting involved in any of that. There’s no need for me. I’m not interested in that kind of thing.”

Noel Gallagher recently released his first solo DVD International Magic Live At The O2. It features two discs with footage from his gig at London’s O2 Arena and an acoustic gig in Toronto’s Mod Club.

The bundle also includes footage from the singer’s Godlike Genius performance at this year’s NME Awards and a 20-minute video trilogy collating three High Flying Birds videos, entitled ‘Ride The Tiger’.

“Back to the punker sounds”

The Lemonheads’ ongoing revival has taken a Ryan Adams turn. The Evan Dando-led alternative rockers have been touring with various lineups since reuniting in 2005, even releasing a couple of albums. Earlier this year, they finished a U.S. tour where they played all 13 songs from 1992’s It’s a Shame About Ray. Then came word that former Lemonheads bassist Juliana Hatfield, who had dueted with Dando on some songs in 2010, would be rejoining the band for their upcoming supporting stint with Psychedelic Furs.

Now, Adams has tweeted that he will be producing a new album with the reunited Lemonheads this weekend, as Slicing Up Eyeballs points out. And Hatfield isn’t the only returning band member. According to Adams, the band’s co-founder Ben Deily, who left in 1989 and has also led the band Varsity Drag, will be involved, too.

In Adams’ own words: “Looking forward to producing the new Lemonheads album this weekend with orig 2 songwriters Evan & Ben with @julianahatfield on bass.” Adams added that he will be “playing drums on the Lemonheads records too. Dream come true… Back to the punker sounds.”

Though Adams’ are the only announcements about the Lemonheads’ album so far, Juliana Hatfield did retweet his comments, suggesting confirmation. Dando and Hatfield’s tale stretches back years, and you can catch up in via a couple of 1993 articles in SPIN. Deily hasn’t been completely estranged from the Lemonheads camp, either, having reportedly reunited with Dando at SXSW in 2010.

Meanwhile, in other upcoming Adams projects… As Twenty Four Bit points out, former Drive-By Truckers member Jason Isbell recently told the AP that he and Adams — his recent tourmate — will go into the studio in October to record Isbell’s fourth solo album.

Liz Phair has also said she’d like to record an album with Adams. Details on the former Whiskeytown member’s role on the Isbell record aren’t clear, but even if he’s producing, he’s still far less prolific in those duties than as a songwriter: Adams’ last production credit for another artist came in 2006, when he and his backing band the Cardinals worked on Willie Nelson’s album Songbird.

Signori e signore, questo ragazzo, c’è riuscito.

É riuscito a raccogliere i dissapori e le emozioni di una generazione per dipingerle in 9 affreschi di saporito pop con venature di romanticismo e rabbia che si intrecciano senza mai incontrarsi, ma piuttosto sfidandosi a un duello.

Si cari miei, c’è riuscito, perchè mi ha tirato giù dal letto a mezzanotte e mezza a conclusione di 5 giorni in cui, ininterrottamente, il CD del Cile è entrato nel mio stereo, nelle mie orecchie, nel mio cuore e soprattutto nel mio fegato.

Il Cile, questo il nome che si è dato, abbreviazione di Cilembrini Lorenzo, aretino di nascita, un nomignolo che sa di scorribande giovanili, quando i cognomi si abbreviavano con qualcosa di simpatico, il gusto di trovarsi o farsi affibbiare un nick ai tempi in cui ancora non era necessario presentarsi in giro con il nome e cognome a cui ci vorrebbero abituare oggi i padroni dei social network.

Quello che viene da pensare è che questo disco sia stato realmente vissuto, come dire si notano i segni delle ferite, nulla di inventato, nulla di pianificato, this is the life, e siamo ben contenti che il Cile sia arrivato a questo traguardo che lo ha già portato alto nelle classifiche di vendita.

Ma tornando all’album, si parlava di affreschi, perchè questo Cile è proprio bravo a dipingere con parole affilate e sonorità accattivanti, pensieri che molto spesso hanno ben poco di divertente.

Prendiamo Siamo Morti a Vent’anni, prima traccia che da il titolo all’album, sembrano revolverate al cuore di una generazione, quanto si è perso in pochi anni, un amore perduto, un ricordo sbiadito, un progetto mancato e ci si ritrova a 30, ma magari anche a quasi 40 anni, come zombie, persi.

La seconda traccia è Cemento Armato, che ha fatto da singolo apripista, in rotazione alle radio dallo scorso inverno, è una canzone intrisa di acido e di rabbia, un pugno nello stomaco a questa società dove “senza uno stipendio sei un difetto sociale” e qualcuno fa di tutto per far si che questo avvenga. Ti entra subito in testa, con la voce che graffia, e un ritornello che non lascia scampo, “io ti ho dato un prato di viole e tu cemento armato”, può essere l’amata, puo’ essere la vita, ma questo è il risultato.

Con la terza traccia “Tu che avrai di più”, un tipico affresco di romanticismo ferito, qualcuno che ha trovato di più di quanto si poteva offrire, scorre il tempo, scorre la sofferenza, ma si fa di tutto per mantenere vivo qualcosa che forse esiste solo nella testa di chi ama un sogno. Una languida chitarra ci accompagna, e neanche “sparare alle stelle” può servire. Uno dei pezzi più belli dell’album.

“La ragazza dell’inferno accanto” mi ricorda una copertina di un fumetto che leggevo a 20 anni: Dylan Dog. Anche qui, il Cile disegna per bene ambientazioni dannate e variopinte, prima di farci tuffare in un’incalzante pezzo che rappresenta l’impossibilità di vivere al minimo qualcosa che si vorrebbe vivere al massimo, “e allora cosa vuoi che dica? Eccetto la parola amica! Preferisco Uccidermi!”. Difficile accontentarsi quando si trova l’antidoto al proprio dolore. Rinfrescante

Con “Tamigi” si viaggia dalla periferia italiana fino a Londra, un viaggio di abbandono, un viaggio di illusioni, un viaggio in cui qualcuno dei due rimane fermo. Conturbante.

E arriva il bello con “Il nostro duello”, si torna a dipingere con la mano del poeta maledetto, mi viene in mente un’atmosfera Boehmienne, ma più italiana che si puo, la Scapigliatura di fine ottocento ci starebbe tutta. Il duello è un avvicendarsi di synt e parole di sangue, per terminare in un di campo di grano coi corvi, alla fine della guerra. Gran bel pezzo, 8+.

“Il mio incantesimo” è il secondo singolo estratto dall’album, in rotazione dall’inizio dell’estate scorsa. Non si offenderà il Cile, se dico che il pezzo cita le sonorità di Sunday Morning Call degli Oasis, non c’entra nulla, ma c’è comunque questo vezzo. Ancora salta fuori il Cile più incazzato con il mondo e con la sua generazione che sente essere priva di stimoli una “generazione che disperde tutto a terra…” anche se “domani mi riprenderò la luce del sole”. Bellissima, 9.

“Credere alle favole” c’è un po’ di sapore degli amici Negrita in questo pezzo rockeggiante. Tic compulsivi e pugnalate raccontano la rassegnazione di un disilluso, “dopo che hai fatto finta anche di non vedermi”, ora non c’è più tempo per credere alle favole! Bella Bella 8.

Chiude in bellezza “La Lametta”! Come cazzo si fa a dare credito a un pezzo che inizia con un nonsense come “Fatti mandare dalla mamma a sedare la mia ansia, fatti mandare dalla mamma che ti porterò in Olanda”.
E invece questo pezzo racchiude tutta la bellezza di questo album, cattivo, in corsa, “ con in mano un’accetta” (citando apertamente Shining di Kubric) pronto a fare a pezzi la musica stantia che sta a infestare le radio dell’Italia intera.
Inarrestabile, sentitevi sto pezzo e darete 8 euro a questo ragazzo per comprarvi l’album.

Noel made the jibe in reference to his brother Liam’s appearance at the Olympic Games closing ceremony on Sunday night, which saw the younger Gallagher performing ‘Wonderwall’ with his band Beady Eye.

The High Flying Birds frontman played an intimate acoustic set at Dingwalls in Camden in aid of the War Child charity, airing a number of Oasis tracks including ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’.

Noel also performed the song ‘Angel Child’, the b-side to 1997’s ‘D’You Know What I Mean’ for the first time live, telling the crowd: “I’ve not heard this since I recorded it.”

He also dedicated ‘Supersonic’ to British Olympic champion, the “great Mo Farah”.

A distanza di 21 anni dalla pubblicazione del loro disco di debutto “Leisure”, EMI Music pubblicherà il 31 luglio tutti gli album dei Blur in versione limited edition che conterrà oltre al disco originale rimasterizzato anche un bonus disc contenenti rarità e inediti selezionati dalla stessa band.

Tutti e sette gli studio album (“Leisure” del 1991, “Modern Life Is Rubbish” del 1993, “Parklife” del 1994, “The Great Escape” del 1995, “Blur” del 1997, “13” del 1999 e “Think Tank” del 2003) con i relativi bonus disc saranno inoltre disponibili in un unico box, il BLUR Boxed Set, che includerà 4 CD aggiuntivi per un totale di oltre 5 ore e mezza di materiale inedito, 3 Dvd, un speciale libro con foto rare e intervista esclusiva alla band, il 7” in vinile inedito di “Superman” dei Seymour (la band di Albarn & soci prima di diventare Blur) eun codice per il download digitale di tutti gli album e dei materiali bonus.

La realizzazione di questa collezione, che comprende anche i primi 5 album in edizione rimasterizzata da Frank Arkwright agli Abbey Road Studios, è stata completamente supervisionata da Graham Coxon e dal produttore Stephen Street.

Tra le rarità, sono da segnalare le primissime registrazioni per “Leisure”, grezze versioni demo di classici come “For Tomorow” e “Beetlebum”, brani inediti quali “Saturday Morning” e “Hope You Find Your Suburbs”, le session mai pubblicate con Bill Laswell e le leggendarie session di registrazione con Andy Partridge degli XTC. In più, per la prima volta su CD i brani “Don’t Bomb When You’re The Bomb”, “The Wassailling Song” e “Fools Day”.

Tra i materiali video inclusi nei DVD, invece, trovano posto il Live at Alexandra Palace 1994 e il Live at Wembley ‘The Singles Night’ 1999.

Contemporaneamente, dei 7 album verranno rese inoltre disponibili le edizioni in Vinile da 180gr, singolarmente o in un unico box contenente anche un codice per il download digitale degli album.

Liam Gallagher and his Beady Eye collective performed classic Oasis tracks at their Stone Roses warm-up gig last night in Warrington.

Beady Eye played a triumphant warm-up gig last night in preparation for their Saturday night support slot at Stone Roses show at Heaton Park.

The 12 song set at Warrington’s Parr Hall surprisingly didn’t include the two most recent Beady Eye singles ‘Millionaire’ or ‘The Beat Goes On’ but instead did include Liam-penned song ‘World Not Set In Stone’ and revisited the Oasis back catalogue for the first time as Beady Eye. Noel Gallagher-written ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’ and ‘Morning Glory’ were performed.

Their Saturday slot will see the band join the likes of The Wailers, Professor Green and Hollie Cook in support of Manchester legends, The Stone Roses.
